FRENZY!

Saturday Rahel, Van and I went into London to see Matthew Deer at Fabric. We got off the Oxford bus at Marble Arch and wondered aimlessly in search of a place to eat. After an hour or two of walking, we were all faint with hunger. London, or at least the section we traversed, seemed to be filled with only greasy chip stands and over-priced chain bistros. As we walked further, the streets grew less populated and more residential, and we finally happened upon a little half-timbered, two storied restaurant called the Globe. The menu posted outside the door was short but inexpensive, and looked interesting. The interior looked like a 50's art director's idea of an 1890's brothel; it was really Jack the Ripper. The bar downstairs was relatively crowded, but the restaurant upstairs was completely empty, so we had the the Gay 90's eating hall all to ourselves. When we opened the menus we discovered one two sided page listing all that was on offer for the night, and another that was devoted to anecdotes about Alfred Hitchcock's eating habits! As it turned out, most of his 1972 Jack the Ripper-ish film Frenzy had been shot in the Globe. Van and Rahel took some appropriately dramatic photos:
